Default ABS failure

ABS light is illuminated on my 98 Rodeo 3.2 v6 automatic with 177k. The ABS system worked for the first few years I owned it. Two years ago it would activate randomly during slow stops and finally quit working altogether. This winter I lost control trying to stop in icy conditions and suddenly realized the importance of ABS, but do not know where to start testing or replacing with junkyard parts. Midas wants $90 to diagnose, but I have had some good responses on this forum, so I though I might give it a shot before going to the pros!

Thanks ahead of time!

Check the sensors on each tire. They are the first likely thing to mess up.
Hope this helped
