Default 99 Rodeo Transmission Issue

Hello everybody. I have a 99 V6 4x2 Rodeo 170,000 miles.

The overdrive went out in my transmission, and my car clearly would struggle to attempt to switch into gears while on the highway, but what I noticed is the temperature gauge in the dashboard would tilt slightly to the Left towards the Cold temperature.

Any reason why that would be? I would understand if it went the Right. I would assume its straining itself causing it to overheat, but why Left?

possibly with OD out, when it tries to switch at high rpm's it causes a massive tranny fluid flow through the cooler. If i'm thinking right, both the tranny fluid and engine coolant flow through the radiator. with either one being accelerated, would have an over-all cooling affect on your engine. *just my theory.
