2001 Rodeo Sport fan clutch noise??
I replaced a bad fan clutch recently (71K miles) and the removal and installation went pretty well. However, the new fan clutch makes a extremely loud "whooshing" noise (like a supercharger or something!) for about five minutes until it warms up. The noise then disappears until I shut the vehicle off and start it again.
I talked to the guy at Autozone about the loud noise and he said "they all do it" but he didn''t have an answer as to why the old fan clutch did not make this loud noise.
The unit fit perfectly (TorqFlow/$65) but I''m wondering if a different unit from somewhere else will also make this loud noise.
Any help is greatly appreciated!!

They all do that. The fan clutch has a temp sensitive viscous fluid and will be "locked up" when cold. As it warms up it wont spin the fan so fast, and as the temp gets hotter it will start to "lock up" again until the engine cools down some. Aftermarket ones tend to lock up more when cold then OEM but there is nothing wrong with it, just a bit annoying. Nissans were pretty well known for this, until they warmed up all you could hear was the fan. Your old one didnt do it cuz it was OEM and was going bad.
