Hello everyone. I just purchased a 1998 Rodeo LS 4x4 with a few issues. I see some of these are common and I am looking to get some feedback on each fix.

1) ABS light is on-I see I should check the rear harness and possibly replace with new piece. Anything else to check? No codes are stored currently.

2) Oil consumption-not sure how bad yet. Anything thats worked to slow this down?

3) Air bags are missing. It has a salvage title and it looks as though it wasa light front collision at one time. Can I just buy the air bags or is there more that needs replacing once their deployed? I see them for sale on EBay for a reasonable cost. It would be nice if I can just bolt them in place without to much headache. The air bag light is on and I'm hoping that will go out when the bags are replaced?

4) Vibration in the steering wheel that the previous owner couldn't figure out.I read something about a yoke replacement?

5) Timing belt hasn't been replaced. Currently has 114,000 andI am guessing its a gamble everday I drive it, right? Do we alwaysreplace the tensioner, water pump etc. Oil pump? What's the common practice and what fails regualry?

Thanks for any direction on these issues.

Eric

I had a 1993 Ford Explorer, it had a vibration in the steering wheel, my mechanic fixed thetransmission andthe differential but the vibration did not disspear. Another mechanic found that the slipe yoke was worn away and was causing the vibration. I suggest you to check thecardan driveshaftand the slipe yoke.

Now I have a 1997 Isuzu Rodeo, itdoes not have that problem.

not to sound negative but with a salvage title aka totaled truck the common fixes most likely arent going to help you the abs could be almost anything from a pinched harness to a bad speed sensor the air bags are NOT just a bolt in and plug in deal if you plug them iin they WILL deploy you have to replace the impact sensors as well as any other parts this is not something I recomend for the do it yourselfer as far as the timing belt the tensioner and idlers are usually good I would suggest t-belt water pump and the hydrolic pushrod portion of the tensioner not the pulley part steering wheel vibration again could be anything from something bent still from the accident to tires to warped rotors ball joints wheel bearings cv axle damage again its anybodies guess and as far as oil consumption believe it or not Isuzu's factory specs for oil loss is 1 quart per 1k milesdo you ever actually see it that bad no but you can try using some Lucas engine oil additive with your next LOF and it may help Ive had real good luck with it on many different vehicles hope this helps and again not trying to be negative just realistic
