I was going to go ahead anddo the timning belt job on my recently purchased 1998 Rodeo 3.2. I am seeing conflicting reports on whether or not this is an interference motor. Can anyone confirm this either way?

Thanks, Eric

So if the belt goes its just inconvenient, not bending valves? right?

Are any generations of these motors (Isuzu 3.2 & 3.5) interference?

Thanks

All the 3.2 and 3.5s are non interference. The SOHC and trooper DOHC ones are closer tolerance so it 'may' be possible to hit a valve but generally not. The 4 cylinder engines are interference fit.

THE HAYNES MANUAL STATES THAT THE 3.2 L V6 IS A INTERFERENCE ENGINE!

DON''T TAKE A CHANCE, REPLACE THE TIMING BELTS EVERY 60K MILES,

THE JOB IS PRETTY STRAIGHT FORWARD ON THE 98, EVERYTHING CAN BE DONE FROM ABOVE ON A SDT TRANS ENGINE!

JUST DID A TIMING BELT AND SERPENTINE BELT REPLACEMENT YESTERDAY!

The Haynes manual (and a few other manuals) are wrong. It is non interference. My info comes straight from Jerry Lemond (JLEMOND) who is the guru of all things Isuzu. He worked for Isuzu for over 20yrs training mechanics and knows absolutely everything about them.

Since they are NI fit engines and the belt lasts so long Isuzu increased the change interval to 100k miles on ''98+ DOHC. Generally the water pump or t-belt tensioner goes bad long before the belt does.Edited by: Gizmo42
