Angry 1996 Isuzu Rodeo - Killing Me...

Ok, so this is a bought used 96 Rodeo. 6 cyl. 4 wd. 100k + miles on it.

I noticed oil dripping and low oil pressure. Took it to my mechanic and he took an oil sample.

he noticed very big metalic flakes in the oil "it looks like snow globe".

so he sent it out for analysis, and it came back today.

the analysis company said "we found no wear metal in the sample" we do not measure anything over .9 microns which is normal wear metalic size.

SO, this has to be something that is broken, or chipping...whatever...

my mechanic can not figure out what it is unless they do a complete overhaul....

take the engine out, and do exploratory surgery...

anyone know what im looking at here? Price wise? Parts wise?

i spent $2k buying this, and will probobly spend another $2k.... or should i just dump it and look for something else?

look for another mechanic. get a second opinion any decent mechanic should be able to give you a price other than doing "exploratory surgery" not to mention that the Honda motors in the V6 Rodeos are not the kind of motor for an inexperienced mechanic to tackle. Espically when it's probably either an oil pump or bearings on the car causing the oil pressure drop.

It's hard to say what might be causing the shavings, it could be bearings or journals, it could be something else all-together, but by the time you pay someone to pull the engine out, diagnose the problem, and then charge you an arm-and-a-leg to buy the replacement part(s) from them you can just buy a used short-block somewhere and drop it in yourself if you mechanically capable and have the tools.
