1990 Isuzu pickup 2.6 Stalls when cold, runs fine warm
Hi,
I was hoping somebody could help me out. I just had the head gasket and head repaired on my 1990 Isuzu Pup 2.6. When I picked up the truck, the idle was very high. The mechanic said he had to do that otherwise it would stall when cold. Translation - he could not figure out why the pickup would stall when cold so he just cranked up the idle. The problem is I couldnt drive it that way since shifting in drive or reverse caused the pickup to lurch forward or backward. I asked him to reduce the idle, he did warning it would be difficult to keep it running when cold. I said "fine" please do it anyway.
So now when cold the pickup stalls out at idle. I have to drive it initially with one foot on the gas and one foot on the brake and ride the brake pretty hard at anyting less than 5mph to keep the truck running. Once it warms up its finel.
The mechanic said he replaced all the vacuum hoses he could find.
I pushed on the EGR valve, it does move back and forth but I have to push a bit, kind of stiff. Could the EGR cause this problem?
Any other ideas? Any help appreciated.
Thanks
