I just bought a 1998 amigo 138,000 it and i think it has a cracked head i only bought the car for $500. AFter you drive it for about 15 miles the engine starts to over heat and the temp goes up. Also when i checked the oil it looked liked there was some anti-freeze in it. In another forum i saw that someon ehad teh similer problem and it was just that his cooling fan wasn't kicking in and this lady hit a deer about 1 year ago and it needed a new radiator. It could be a head gasketit but it was smoking the one time it over heated. if anyone has any advice it would be aprriciated.

Could be a head. If no additional or new oil leaks, then you can eliminate the block. If no additional or new coolant leaks, then you can pinpoint that it may be a head.

So did you find out the problem?

Hey I had a problem like that do a compression check on your cylinders to see if you have loss of pressure in any of them kind of sounds like you have a cracked or wrapped head. Did it over heat before this problem? if the answer is yes, then it is possible you cracked a head. Also make sure that if you did crack and have to replace the head to check all your lifters, rods, and replace all on that side. This will eliminate any future tap noise.

I just got finished with an onverhaul on my 98'' (4 cyl)

I bought it with the thought that the gasket was blown out but after I got it all broke down I took it in to get the head checked and there was a crack... so after about $800 for a new head, cams, gaskets, and filters it is now running again

when I bought mine I got it for $750 it would start spewing smoke out the back almost right away. the oil looked like chocolate milk and I knew right away that it had a blown gasket or head

Good luck hope that my babbling helped

Yeap that is what mine was like, cracked heads are tricky, when in doubt check them out the oil is always a good sign that your gasket is blown, or heads are cracked. I learned that through a horrible experience of trial and error on my Dodge Ram 1500. Now I have the Amigo I want and am having to fix the Shift Solenoid if anyone knows about that let me know.
