Amigo owners,

I replied to an issue on the Trooper forum regarding an issue of why a Trooper wouldn't start. I wanted to post it here also as it would be beneficial for Amigo owners as well as I had a similar problemwith my Amigo. It wouldn't start, mostly from sitting for long periods of time. At first I thought it was my battery, cause sometimes it sounded like it would start and then it would die. Then after several tries, I would only hear a clicking sound at the starter. It sounded like my battery was dead, but then after several tries of turning the key (and because if I didn't keep tryin, I would be stranded), my car would start fine and would continue tostart without a problemafter my car waswarmed up. But when it was cold, nothin. I had the charging system checked twice and everything was good.My battery was less than a year old and was strong, so it was not my battery. I didn't want to tempt fate and count on my car starting after 5 minutes of trying as it has been doing, so I finally brought it to my mechanic and he confirmed that my starter was bad. He replaced it and everything is fine once again. ...However, if you Amigo folks attempt to replace the starter yourself, note that my mechanic had to move the exhaust manifold out of the way to replace the starter. And then one of the bolts was frozen. There was a risk that the exhaust manifold might break in trying to remove the bolt after soaking it WD-40 and banging it as well. But the mechanic didn't give up and he ended up drilling and tapping for a new bolt.So proceed with caution if you take this on yourself.

Also during this time, my check engine light cameon only some times. Not all the time. So I wasn't sure if this was identifying my starting problems, or whether it was identifying something else that was wrong. But since replacing my starter, the check engine light has not come back on since.

In reference to starter I replaced mine and to reach the top bolt I used a few extensions to extend it far enough to remove the bolt without removing any extra pieces

HERES ONE FOR YOU I THOUGHT MY NEUTRAL SAFETY SWITCH WAS BAD BECAUSE MY AMIGO WOULDN''T START WITH KEY SOMETIMES AND I WOULD PUSH CLUTCH PEDAL DOWN AND TURN AGAIN AND THEN IT WOULD WORK AFTER A FEW TRIES,WELL THEN IT WOULDN''T WORK AT ALL AND JUST BY LUCK I GRABBED THE KEY WITH MIDDLE FINGER ON TOP INSTEAD OF REGULAR WAY AND IT STARTED AND IT STARTS EVERY TIME LIKE THIS.iF I GRAB KEY STANDARD WAY IT WON''T START GO FIGURE.
