1998 Isuzu Amigo misfire??
We have a 1998 isuzu amigo four cylinder 2.2 2 wheel drive and it has intermittent misfire. We have checked the erg valve, coil pack, changed spark plugs checked wires and boots replaced throttle position sensor, new alternator and serpentine belt. The check engine light is flashing and reads misfire on scanner the o-2 sensors are working but read rich. When you ask for it to move out under a load Ie: pulling out or up a small hill or just to increase speed it misfires and you can smell unburned fuel from the missing sometimes it backfires. Any other suggestions we are on a limited budget but really need a professionals help... We have been doing all of our own mechanic work. But I don’t know where else to look for the problem it has left us stranded on the hwy not a good thing for 2 woman and 2 babies. Please let me know if you can help.

Misfire is a common driveability problem that may or may not be easy to diagnose depending on the cause.A misfiring cylinder in a four-cylinder engine is,pardon the pun, hard to miss. When misfire occurs, performance suffers along with fuel economy, emissions and idle quality. And,when a misfiring vehicle is subjected to an emissions test,it will usually fail because of the unusually high levels of hydrocarbons in the exhaust.
