flex plate failure (I think)
#1
This is my first post. I just bought a 96 trooper. I have had it about 3 days. I was driving on the freeway then all of a suddenthe transmission appeared to fail. I rolled over to the side of the freeway. It acted like was slipping really bad. However I do not think that is what it is. When I shut the engine off. It would not restart. The starter would spin but the engine was not turning over. This leads me to believe that the hub or bolts in the flex plate broke. I surfed the Web and found one referance to this happening. The Trooper is at the place I bought it. However if there is a issue causing the flex plate to fail it would be nice to know. HELP. I like the rig and i bought it cheep. Its my sons first ride.

take the trans out and see if the 2 guide pins are in the trans or engine, if not that is why you broke the flywheel. Whe people take out trans they don't see the pins and don't think they are important buy they have to be the to line up the trans and engine the bolt allone will not due it

You will need to check the two guides pins(dowels), also check to see if the piliot bushing is in the crankshaft, these two items is what causes flexplate failures.
Also when removing the trans look at the bolts, they are different and will need to go back in the correct location or you could damage the engine block.
