Got my 96 trooper,great truck and now its making this loud ticking sound.
The thing is it only does it once in a while?
It can be making the noise and then i can shut it off go in and out of a gas station and start it up and theirs no noise? I don't know what the deal is?
Another thing is it makes this noise until you get to 2300 rpm then its like a switch and the noise stops? I can drive it for a week with no noise then outa no were it will do it again?I thought it could be a lifter but its not consistent? I really don't know, but I know its embarrassing and annoying as hell when it does happen in public cause its really loud!
Any help would be appreciated.

 

Hey, I just bought one and I found that the timing belt was loose and that made it bounce up and down hitting the pulley. If it is in the front of the motor it may be that. Good luck
