Hey guys, I am looking to buy atrooper here pretty soon. I am looking at $10K and under. I am thinking about an 01 or 02. Are there any issues with this model I shoudl watch out for? I was told 99-00 have oil issues and to stay away from them.

I guess a better ? would be if you had to get another trooper which year/model woudl it be and why? This will be my DD, not much offroading, just pulling a boat, I woudl liek it to be comfortable adn be ok to take the family on trips in.

I've had tremendous reliability from my '96 Trooper S. We've had it for over 5 years, and it'sdriven about 15k miles per year. We take it to the beach a couple times a year (4hrs each way), and take it to Cleveland every 18 months or so (9hrs each way). The truck now has 149k miles on it, and I absolutely trust it for long trips as well as daily driver duty. Cheers,

98-02 have oil issues due to bad engine design. Go with an 03 or 04 if you can find one within your budget.

The oil issue for the 98-02 issue is that it eats up a lot of oil, again due to bad engine design, see other posts that clearly states this.

Now if you don''t mind checking your oil level and refilling it every week especially on higher mileage, then 98-02 are decent.

I do check my oil level every week and use a thicker oil just to have a peace of mind.
