Default Timing Belt Question

I've just bought a 99 Trooper with 159,000 miles on it. The owner didn't know if the timing belt had been changed or not. Is there a way to look at the belt or some other way to figure out if the belt needs changing or do I need to just go get it changed? Does anybody know what it would cost to have it done?

i would just get it done if its an "unkown". because it is going to cost alot less than valves and head work.

call a couple local shops or if you know of one that has a good rep. an get a price quote. cost between $300-$450 depeding on price of parts an the labor.

you will be happy when you find it was about to snap and you got in just in time.

If you are handy at changing things and working on the car, then it will take a good day to do it yourself.I want to attache a PDF version of the timing belt replacement instructions but seem unable.....

i would just get it done if its an "unkown". because it is going to price a lot less than valves and go perform. contact a few regional stores or if you know of one that has a excellent rep. an get a quoted price. price between $250-$430 depeding on price of areas an the perform.you will be satisfied when you discover it was about to breeze and you got in just soon enough.
