Hello,
Does anyone here know what the specs are on the steering pump pressure for the early- to mid-90's Trooper, Amigo, etc.

Any help would be appreciated.

Bud

I could not find out much, but I am guessing it is in the area of 1000 lbs, as Ford was the only manufacturer that had a lower pressure pump of 700 lbs. Domestics are easy to find info, not so Asian. Interesting question though!

Thanks, Mike.

I did find that the '86 truck pump (which appears to use the same steering gear as the early 90's Isuzu vehicles) is withing specs at 1085-1210 psi at 1500 rpm.

I am actually trying to retrofit an Isuzu steering box onto a 67 Ford and have found your Ford numbers to be spot on as well.

Thanks again.

Bud

I don't know what you can expect from the conversion, but I do know that when you use a Ford steering gear with a higher pressure pump, you get a very light feel in the wheel while driving that is particularly unpleasant at higher speeds. I would consider using a higher pressure pump than a stock Ford pump if you use a different gear. I would expect the steering effort to increase if the Ford lower pressure pump were used. Also, there is a pressure diverter valve available that allows you to fine tune the steering feel if you use a high pressure pump, as it bleeds off pressure through a variable orifice. Good luck.
