I have a 99 Trooper. The rear suspension is banging when I pass over even a moderate bump. It is a loud metal to metal thump as the weight of the body is slamming against the frame. I have replaced the springs and shocks but it persists. Any ideas or similar experiences?

STEP 1; Get out of the car. STEP 2; Look under the back end and see what is clean or shiney from banging into something.

Hi, It could be a worn or missing bushing on the sway bar, or another possibility is a worn or missing bushing on the shock absorber. Sometimes the metal shock bushing gets elongated and allows the shock to strike the bolt on rebound. Sway bar bushing should be tight to bar and bracket...ie: not easily movable. Both take a little investigating, maybe with someone bouncing the car while you observe the suspect area.

Hope this helps

after market poly bump stops can be bought at any off road shop some times you have to get creative about how you need to get them on
