Default Power / winter control

What are these two buttons for on the 4WD automatics? I have a 94 and it has these two buttons below the gear shift. The "winter" button lights up when you press it. The "power" button does not light up.
Can anyone give me some help on what exactly these buttons do and how I can tell if they are working?

Thanks,

Winter is like traction control (good on slopes too) power just modifies shift points and the like.

No, Winter mode forces the trans to start out in 2nd gear to help eliminate wheel spin in slippery conditions.

The Power mode switches the trans shift points for power or economy. In the power position the engine winds out longer before shifting. With it Off it shifts quicker for better fuel economy.
