I have a 2001 Trooper with 4WD. For the past six months the engine has developed a slow oil leak dripping down from the oil pan. At first I thought it may be either a rear engine seal or the oil pan gasket, but upon closer inspection I discovered the area where the dipstick tube attached to the passenger side of the engine was wet. Long story short - I removed the tube, replaced the two o-rings at the end of it (dealer item), and solved the problem. Best way to get to the bolt that holds the tube bracket to the engine (on a 4WD vehicle) is to remove the front tire, and attack it from the wheel well (just above the ABS wire connector). Once the bolt is removed, wiggle the tube then snake it out. Best to have a helper to hold the top of the tube as you reinstall from the bottom.
