Ground Wire
Hello there,
This will be my first post here and the day before yesterday would have been my first time driving a trooper. I was just given a 90 v6 automatic trooper to drive untill i can go back to California to pick up my F150. it is a rust bucket
but runs good. So I took it out for a drive yesterday not knowing anything about it other than my brother laughed as he handed me the keys. started great i was about 15 miles from home when it stopped down shifting and the trans light started blinking. so i pulled over and opened the hood to find everything was covered with a layer of oil and grease i was in shock i have never seen anything that dirty before, so i preceeded to check the tranny fluid and all was fine.. i limped home and found this forum where i found that the alternator can cause it to do exactly what happened(and the alternator was covered with oil and thats no good) so today im gonna go get the alternator checked.
My question is while i was snooping around under the hood after i got home i noticed ther was a yellow on black wire next to the alternatior that was chewed in half by the belt. i traced it and it comes off the neg post on the battery then bolts to the battery tray then goes under the battery tray and well mine stops next to the alternator. Does anyone know where its supposed to go? and should i even bother with fixing it. i fugure if im going to do it why not do it right.
