Default excessive fuel use

im new to the forum,
i just bought a 1990 4 cylinder 5 speed 4wd trooper with 146000 miles on it. and i just love this thing it runs great it's in really good shape it needs all the useual stuff like oil change tune up ect. my brother and i put about 150 miles on last saturday and noticed it was useing a lot of fuel .

i pulled it in our shop checked all the fuel lines i could find changed fuel filter. had a friend mash the gas while i laid under it thinking it was loosing gas while driveing i cannot find a leak any where.
i was wondering if anyone else has had this problem or could give me some ideas on how to fix it. it's only getting about 12-14 mpg or is this normal for these vehicles. my z71 gets better than that any help at all would be greatly appreciated. thanks wes

Does the inside of your oil cap look like a chocolate milkshake? If yes to any of these, you are looking at a pretty hefty repair. Good Luck
