Hey all. The names Ben. Im new here and I must say, I am very impressed with the nice clean layout of the site. Im looking forward to spending my time here

Anyway I have a 2001 Isuzu Trooper V6 3.5L 5 Speed Manual. I have a problem:

Theres something wrong with the emergency brake I think. When you start to move just after releasing the E Brake, you can hear this high pitched squeal coming from the rear brakes. Its been doing this for a while now.

Last year Itookthe car to see if a mechanic could figure it out and they just had to replace the roters and brake pads. Aparently it was stuck on a little bit and got to the point where it was down to metal and ate into the roters.

It doesnt do that now. Now you have to pull up pretty hard on the E Brake to make it catch. Its almost pulled all the way up. Could this be because the cable or something is loose?

Thanks in advance!

I think that in that case with new pads and roters the brake should just need tightening. I would suppose.

Currently I am having problems with my 88 Trooper''s brakes. Its only the drivers side rear. the brake feels as if it is on, but then its not. so im just driving around with the brake kind of on. It gets really hot, i throw a handful of snow onto the wheel and it instantly melts and turns to steam! its crazy.

Thanks, Im about 90% for sure that thats what I need to do. I just cant find anything on google that will tell me exactly how to adjust it.

And it kinda sounds like maybe your e brake is too tight. It could be just a little bit. Just enough to make contact and heat. Sounds like its gettin pretty hot. Might wanna investigate further.

hmm. maybe the maunel tells you how. the dealership or a shop can do it for sure.

im thinking it could be that it is too tight. but its only on one side. i dont know how that can happen. oh well. im taking it in tomorrow anyway, i need a new water pump. mine is starting to go.

On your ''01 there are brakes shoes inside of the rear rotors just like if the truck only had drum brakes. there is an adjustment for them and can be serviced just like drum brakes on any other vehicle. and they do have self adjusters on them too. the self adjuster needs to be adjusted manually to return the e-brake handle to its original position. If it starts to get high again just reverse and pull up on the handle to adjust it.

Hmm..Im a little lost now. Fenny, you said that it needs to be manually adjusted. Do I do that by reversing and pulling up on the handle, or do I do it some other way?

So I guess my new question is "How do I adjust the E-Brake?"

But thanks to everyone whos replied!
