Hello Isuzu forums. I was wondering what the best Trooper might be. I currently own an 83 P''up 4x4 diesel and I really want to stick with Isuzu. I have been seriously considering getting a Trooper. Pretty much know what I want, but would like to gather feedback from experianced Trooper owners. I was thinking a later first generation 89-91, V6!, 5 speed manual, hi & low range 4x4. I do like to go into the mountains here in Colorado and ''tool'' around some jeep trails, but nothing hardcore. No extreme rock climbing and such.

So what should I avoid in a Trooper? Whatare the better years? What else should I look for in a Trooper?

PS...my P''up might be for sale soon in Denver area.

That''s right! The 2.6 4cyl. is only .2 litres displacement smaller than the Chevy 6cyl. Some people have head gasket problems, but I''m at 238K miles on mine, and still running strong.

The 2.8 six is a dog, and also unreliable over 100K miles.

I used to know a guy that bought old diesel Troopers with blown engines and had them rebuilt at a shop off of East 14th St. in Denver. I don''t remember the details, but he said there was a design flaw in the diesel that they knew how to correct durring the rebuild.

He then drove them to Nicaragua, where his family had coffee plantations and where those Trooperswere in high demand (he would drive one and tow another behind it). He swore those were the best Troopers.

Thats interesting about the actual displacement between the two. I did not know that. What about an earlier 2nd gen? Like a 94 with a V6. After driving an 83 P''up (C223 diesel) for a decade, I do like the added ''creature comforts'' with the 2nd gen Troopers.

PS...my P''up only has 79,000 miles on it. I''m the 2nd owner with the first owner being a longtime friend of our family. He buaght it brand new from Tynans Isuzu in 1983. The only things I''ve had to do to it during the 10 years I''ve owned it was have the alternator rebuilt, new battery, and new glow plugs. However, I need to change the throw-out bearing in the clutch, it squeels a little bit when pushing in the clutch. It''s the ''LS'' model with the nice seats, sunroof, and AC. The body is three tone...maroon, silver, and rust.
