98 trooper noise coming from transmission shifter

Default 98 trooper noise coming from transmission shifter
Just bought a 98 trooper 3.5. The transmission is painted blue.. I noticed while driving I can hear road noise coming from the shifter.. Is this normal? I is something missing from the the bottom of he shifter that keeps nois out?
