actually i still have the same problembut the truck is still running strong with the acception of bad gas mileage. i still havent found a solution but i think ill just save up for a used motor and drive the other one into the ground. i think that the problem is in the upper motor like in the valve train because its a fast tick that speeds up as the rpm's increase. by the way im military too. where are you stationed?

all of the old sohc have a lifter tick you can make the noise go away by only sure fix thing or try a temp fix. 1st you can replace the rocker arms and shafts but this is very costly. the other is to use 0w-30 mobile one, oil after you change it run the engine at 2000 rpm's for 30 minutes. if the noise goes away your ok then go back to your old oil next time. but I found this only helps for a short while, the next thing you can try is 15w-40 rotella oil for diesels, it will clean up the inside of your engine. Where are you located at I might know a Isuzu Tech in your area that you can use and trust

i tried using rotella 15w40 and it helped quiet the ticking for the first couple days but with some hard miles it came right back. the problem with the ticking doesnt bother me but trying to sell it with a ticking noise does because noone will buy it with that noise. ill just do a head job and be done with it
I had heard/read that this was common and mostly ignored it. Despite all scheduled maint./oil changes, etc. since new, my 96 3.2SOHC ran to 149,543 when it sucked spark plug seat and plug down into Cylinder 6. Imagine the damage! Block is unsalvageable. Be careful.
