Default '94 Trooper Smoking like a house fire!

Hello Isuzu Forums members! I'm a first time poster, but have been a fan of the Trooper since I got mine about a year ago. It's got about 140k miles on it with no major problems other than an occasional transmission slip(maybe once a week, if that).
Over all I haven't had many issues with it, but I have noticed an oil leak that seems to be getting exponentially worse over the past couple of months.
Let me just say now that I am no mechanic, though was raised by one so I'm not completely in the dark here. What I'm trying to find out is where this leak might be coming from that would cause it to drip on either the head or exhaust. The way it smokes it almost seems as if the the leak is pooling up on one of the two. I have had a few people tell me my engine was on fire and I had to re-assure them it was only an oil leak.
Also, I was wondering if anyone would have any idea how much this repair would cost and if its something my mechanic friend would be able to fix or if I need to take it to a shop. He is a great mechanic, but has really no experience working on Isuzu's or really any foreign motors for that matter.
Any insight to my problem would be greatly appreciated, I just want to go back to enjoying my Trooper!
