91 Trooper II Fuel Pump
 

I found a 91 Trooper II. It needs work but I only want to use it for a short distance driver and eventually turn it into an off road project. it has 140k and is selling for $675. They "say" it needs a fuel pump but for that price I'm assuming more will be wrong. I am unfamiliar with Isuzus so I am wondering what I can expect to pay for a new fuel pump. I know some cars' fuel pumps are an easy fix and some aren't. Also, if anyone could give me info on what to look out for with this vehicle that'd be great.

I just replaced the fuel pump in my 90 Trooper the other day..
This is what I did:
Disconnect battery
Drain gas tank
Disconnect wiring and fuel lines going to tank
remove the skid plate protecting the tank..4 bolts
remove bolts holding gas tank to bracket.. 4 on mine
disconnect gas filler hose..
Gas tank out remove the approx 8 screws holding the fuel pump assy.
lift out assy and check the tank to make sure its clean..
get a new fuel pump from auto parts store..mine was around 85.00 and get a new strainer/filter around 20.00
remove old pump and keep in mind there will be gas still in the pump..
install new pump and reconnect wires and boots..
reinstall fuel pump assy into tank and tighten the approx.8 screws..
reinstall the tank and reconnect wires and fuel lines..fuel filler hose..
Put some fresh gas in
reconnect battery and see if she starts..check for any leaks
I would recommend replacing the fuel filter as well..
If all is good reinstall the skid plate..
My Trooper sat for 7 years and the pump was bad..I had a buddy help me out and it took less than an hour to get the tank out and back in..My trooper cranked for awhile until fuel got back to motor and then fired up..

We work on hot rods mostly but I wanted to do a Trooper...So my plan is to "restore" my 90. I will take pics as we go..some things we will do and others like paint and interior will be done by someone else..I always take pics along the way..I wanted a Trooper for my daily but I had a hard time finding a really nice one..so I decided to find a clean starter and do it all the way I want it and at least I know I have a relatively "done" Trooper that I can enjoy for years..I will post as we go along..I've owned a Trooper before but never tore one apart this much so it is a learn as you go thing....
