2nd gen Trooper Toyota 4.L V8 1UZFE swap

Hi everyone! I’m new to the forum and I’ve started doing the 1UZFE swap into my 92 trooper stick shift.
I have the motor and harness and I’ve started doing all the math for making parts to mate the two together.
I plan on posting the build of course but I thought I would check and see if anyone would be interested in doing the same swap because while I’m at the machine shop making parts it would be easier to make more all at once.
Now I know price is always an issue which is why I decided to post this thread, yet there are two options that I am comfortable doing but the prices will be very different.
Option 1. Modify a 4Runner flywheel and assemble a clutch kit that will work. Meaning custom pilot bearing, finding a clutch disk that will mate with the flywheel and pressure plate and making an internal clutch slave cylinder/throughout bearing work with it.
I’m still doing the research on this option to see if it’s even possible.
Option 2. Make a custom flywheel and pilot bearing. Now I know this sounds way easier but it’s not that much easier and it’s looking way more expensive.

Option 1. Parts list for kit
Engine/trans adapter plate, motor mount brackets and complete clutch kit with flywheel.
No price available yet as further research depends on the feedback I get.

Option 2. Parts list for kit
Engine/trans adapter plate, custom flywheel and custom pilot bearing. The factory Isuzu clutch would work and would not be included.
This option would be roughly $1000.00

These kits would be completely bolt in without any other necessary fab work except wiring, heater hoses and cooliyfans etc. (I will be providing all the part numbers on all parts I use for the swap)

I’m looking forward to your feedback!

Somewhere on this forum is a post from a guy that was doing or, more likely contemplating doing a Lexus v8 swap into a Trooper 11. Might be the same motor. You might want to search for the thread.

Thanks Hooligan, I appreciate the info although he did it to a gen 1 Trooper and they have different bell bolt Patterns and different clutch systems.

I tried to edit this thread but it doesn’t work and when I try to it actually shows that it’s fixed but it never corrects.
anyway it’s supposed to say 4.L not 3.L

I made the motor mounts out of steel although they are just prototypes and I plan to machine some aluminum ones. I feel that making a new flywheel is the better way to go so I started making the file for machining although it’s not finished yet.

It’s tough to find time to finish this build as I have a family and a complete custom ground up F100 build I’m immersed in and I’m doing the trooper build in any other spare time I can muster up.

Anyway I ran into a couple things I didn’t foresee in the beginning.
A/C is not an option because there is no room for the compressor or the condenser. Sorry!!!
the other is there are two oil pan options on the 1UZFE engine ( front sump and mid sump ) the mid dump is not an option as there is no room and the front sump runs into the drag link although is doable by modifying the pan, windage tray and pick up tube.

I calculated the oil loss and added a 7/8ths strip to compensate for the space I cut out then I mig welded it together and went over it with a tig welder to make sure there the metal was fused smoothly then tested for leaks and it passed. I then sand blasted the entire pan and painted it.

I cut the pick up tube and because it’s on an angle, when I rotated it the 1/4” I needed it actually moved downward to the bottom of the pan so I didn’t need to add any pipe (which was a relief) so tig welded it up and tested (passed) as for the windage tray I cut out the material that was hitting the pick up and added material to the hole that was left.

A guy I know wants me to do the swap to his trooper as well so I decided to make myself an aluminum pan from the measurements.

There is plenty of room below so I designed the drain plug to drain all the oil during oil changes with no possibility of tearing it off while having some fun lol. I made it a bit larger to hold more oil as well.
