1998 Drive Problem
I have a 1998 Trooper with a automatic and the TOD system. I purchased this as a non-runner due to a fuel leak and bad front axles. I fixed the leak and test drove the vehicle. When I put it into drive or reverse, at times it starts to take off, then acts like it was put into neutral for a second, then re-engages and is fine. The vehicle has 130,000 miles.
I thought the axles could be part of the problem, but it acts the same after the new axles have been installed. I took it out into my field and checked the 4 High in both 2wd and with the auto button engaged and it works as it should. I then put it into 4 Low and it worked as it should.
Once it does the momentary disengage and reingages, it runs out fine, shifts fine? I’m leaning towards the transfer case being the issue, but not sure what I should check. Has anybody experienced anything like this before?
