Can anyone tellme where the location of the transmission brain is on a '97 Rodeo? What does it control and what would be it's symptoms if it were bad? Mine will not shift into 2nd. Transfer case was changed without issue. </></>

Check the trans fluid and make sure its full and not burnt. If its burnt, DO NOT get a flush. That would kill it if its still ok. Just have the pans dropped, replace the filter, then refill. That will replace about half the fluid. Do it again in about 6 months if the trans is still ok.

Clean/replace the mode sensor. HERE is a post about it.

The TCU is actually built in to the main computer (ECM). Not very common for them to go bad. Most of these transmissions die due to not having regular oil changes. They do not like being neglected. Since they dont have a dip stick lazy mechanics tell owners they are a sealed transmission that doesnt need service which is wrong.
