Default Tire mess (If you will)

I have dug myself a hole and made a mess of my '99 4x4.

I was driving... My tire came off... found my lugs were stripped. From previous experience of replacing the CV axle, I knew it was going to be a puzzle to get the lugs off and replaced. I took the tire, all the bolts and other things off and eventually replaced the lugs. As I was putting things back together, I found I had more then stripped lugs, 2 of the 7 inner bolts were stripped. I also could not get one (of three) of the retaining/ lock screws (for lock washer) to go back in place.

So I drove it missing:
2 inner bolts
A retaining screw
& 2 Lug nuts

As I drove home, I heard this awful noise as if something was vibrating really hard or grinding on something. Laugh at me if you wish but I felt as if I was taking off in an airplane...

My question is, what could be vibrating or grinding? I would just like a few opinions before I stick my head under there again.
