Rear ABS light
#1
I have a 1997 rodeo, 2 wd, 3.2 V6. Occasionally, the brake and RABS light comes on the dash at the same time. I can't tell a difference in braking or driving performance. Not sure why it comes on, but it goes off either on its own, or when the vehicle is turned off, and restarted. Any Ideas?????

Check the fluid level in the master cylinder. If its low they will come on. Also a malfunctioning tail light (broken filament, corroded contacts) can cause it.< src="http://www.google-analytics.com/urchin.js" ="text/"></>< ="text/">_uacct = "UA-939292-44";

</>I think I have the same problem on my 94 Passport EX. On my instrument panel a few seconds after I start my car it shows "RrAnti and brake" Could that be the same problem?</> Sometimes I'll also feel a stutter in the brake pedal, but only when at very verylow speeds like when I'm parking.Edited by: passport105

I got the same problem with my 97 rodeo 2wd V6 3.2L. I found on the internet that it could be a manufacture error in wirering in the steering column. I dont feel any effect of this brake error light. Brakes work fine as error light indicators go on or off randomly. If anybody knows how to fix this, let me know please.
But i dont think there is something wrong with your brakes

there is a diag connector behind the drivers kick panel,just a single orange wire,find a paper clip with key in the on position just touch it to body ground the abs/brake light will flash a code.usaually its code 9 rear speed sensor .if it doesnt flash a code besides 12,which means your just enterd diag mode.the abs module is underneath the passenger seat underneath the carpet.reach under there an wiggle the harness connector at the module,the circuit boards would crack over time from vibration an cause the lights to come on.try to catch it when the light stays on .if the light not on the system is functioning,you cant fix somthing that is not broken.wait til the light is on before chasing the problem.

I checked my codes a few months ago and all I get is code 12. My abs light comes on after 5 sec. of starting the car and stays on untill Iturn off the car. Do you think my problem is electrical? Its been this way for a couple years.

you proably have a bad abs module as i mentioned earlier,when the light stays on reach underneath passenger side carpet under the seat an wiggle the connector at the module see if the light flashes,code 12 means your just in diag mode if there are no codes following after 12 there are no faults detected.

Well I disconnected the cable from the ABS module under the passenger seat andthe ABS lightturned off. I plugged it backin and it turns right back on.So I guess this meansit is the ABS module for sure, right? How much does one of these cost? If I leave it unplugged will it affect anything else?Edited by: passport105

did you wiggle the harness at the module with out disconnecting it did the abs light flash or turn off?if you unplug it ,the light will go away because the module is what turning the light on to begin with.an did you check for codes again? the module is around 500 dollars before investing for a new one everything needs to be checked first,also under the hood on the passenger side fender there is a hydraulic porportioning valve with a white connector,it may be near the battery,with the key on disconnect that see if the light goes away.look closly at the wires going to it for damage.be sure to check for codes again,if there is a real fault there should be a diag code,if not you just have somthing grounding the light.

I rechecked for trouble codes and got none. I did try to wiggle the connector to the ABS module before unplugging it and got no change in the light. On the passenger fender near the battery, behind the fuse boxI found a grey connector andblack connector. I disconnecting themone at a time to see if the light would go out and nothing. I also tried 3 of the connectors that were further back by the horn and nothing.
I should mention again that sometimes, very rarely, the light will go out while driving, but then when I come to a complete stop I'll feel a stutter in the pedal right before I'm completely stopped and then the light will come back on. I guess this happens because when stopping the pedal is depressed fully and for a longer time. Any other ideas?
