losing coolant and breaking camshafts...
long story short...a while back i replaced my water pump, timing belt, etc. Several months later, my wife starts the car...hears a horrible noise, and all the coolant pours out of the front of the car. So, I discover that the water pump has cracked in half. I replace it but can't get the engine back in time. Finally discover that the exhaust cam on the passenger side has sheared the pin on the gear. I replace the cam and all is well...except I am losing coolant at the rate of about a gallon every 2-3 weeks. No wet spots on the driveway, no smoke out of the exhaust. Thinking I have a bad headgasket, I use a block tester to see if there are exhaust gasses in the radiator. Test is negative. Today, I try to start the car and the starter is making a funny noise. Car starts eventually and the motor sounds like it is out of time again. I go back to the passenger side valve cover and can see through the oil cap that now the intake cam gear has walked off the shaft! Why am I tearing up my camshafts? Where is my coolant going? I've read of very similar problems...but never have seen answers. PLEASE HELP!!!!
