Default Infamous Engine Tick

I recently acquired a 92 Rodeo with 167,000 mi. It has the valve? tick that all my Rodeos have had. I ran across an article that points to hydrolaulic lash adjuster failure due to varnish build-up. First action they recommend is switching to 0w-30 synthetic to clean varnish. Any thoughts or experiences trying this as a first resort? Thanks.

ive read everywhere that using a specific engine oil fixes it. my 98 had the same thing, but the other day it disappeared so i dont really know what to think.
