I just bought a 1997 rodeo. I would like to do a little off roading with it. Nothing extreme just here and there. See that its not a frame car its a unibody i can't just buy a body lift kit and mud tirers. But thats what I'm looking for. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions or sites that might have a guide.

I was think of taking some old truck leaf springs and modifing them. But I wasn't sure which ones to start with.

I only need a little lift so I can get bigger tires on it.

Have you looked under it? All isuzus are full frame truck based suvs. Thats why I bought one.

Best place to look at stuff to lift, etc is independent4x.com Matt is pretty much the only place for aftermarket parts for isuzu. Joe Darlington (Darlington off-road) is starting up his business again and is also a great source for isuzu after market. But I dont think his web site is up yet.

How big of tires are you looking at? You can go up to 32" with no lift on a '97. 33" is fairly common, 35" is pushing it as far as drive train is concerned. Personally I prefer 32" so it doesnt kill all my power trying to turn big tires.

actually I havent looked underneath it just got it the other day. I just figured it was a unibody and it looks like one. I'd like 32's but the body lift kit looks more aggressive.

Here's a pic of a '97 with 2" suspension lift and 265/75-16 (32") tires..

He had the tires on before the lift with no rubbing. I prefer suspension lifts. Looks better to me, more usefull, and alot easier to do.

Here is my 2nd gen with 32's and 3" suspension lift..

Yeah the black at least, its mine. Finally got the new wheels and tires on last week. Got my rock sliders in this week, so have to put them on still. The red one belongs to another guy from colorado. Goes by the name Ramblin Fever on planetisuzoo and automotive forums. He has about 185k miles on it, still original 4l30e even!Edited by: Gizmo42
