how to check timing
Ok i have replaced numerous things and i believe i know the problem. its a 95 rodeo 3.2L 4x4 and it seems like it has hardly any compression. I can tell this by revving the engine. it only goes to a certain RPM and holds at that when floored. I drove it today and it seems like it doesnt get as high a RPM as it does when parked. Which tells me that on a load it isnt getting the amount of power it needs. I have changed the following:
Plugs
Wires
MAP sensor
CKP sensor
Oil/filter
fuel filter
EGR valve
checked for vacuum leaks by spraying carb spray around the intake
Any ideas with this would be much appreciated. I have checked the timing belt and it seems very tight. Doesn't seem like it would jump a tooth with it being that tight. It is a new belt and was installed at 90k miles and it now has 123k miles. I need to know how i can check the timing on this thing. Do i have to take the harmonic balancer off to do this? I am limited to tools and dont cant get the balancer off. And also what do i need to buy to do a compression test? or how much does it usually cost for a shop to check it?

they have compression testers at any auto parts store for about 20ish dollars all you do is pull out a spark plug put the compression tester in the spark plug hole and turn over motor like 2 times and repeat BUT make sure you disconnect all of the coil packs so the motor doesn't start when you do these compression tests.
sounds like 1 of a few things:
timing is off but a few degrees
headgasket leak
oil pressure is low (are there any oil leaks?)
the carb may have the choke stuck closed or wont open fully
carb maybe old school and have multi throttle levers like my 88corolla does and 1 went bad
Air filter is VERY VERY dirty and choking the engine
hope these ideas help

im sure its off timing. its fuel injected so no carb. there is a small oil leak on the valve cover but not big deal. and i replaced the filter. i read that theres also a dowel pin on the end of the camshaft that wears down and it can jump timing from that. anyone ever heard this?
