Hi guys, My wife and I were recently given my parents 99 rodeo that has a Rod knock and I need to fix it. I can just get a rebuilt 3.2, which has plenty of power, but I am the kind of guy who wants more. I have replaced a few engines for friends and for funin my SCCA Rally cross Subaru, so I would do what I could myself. So I was thinking I might try to swap in the 3.5 from the trooper or maybe something newer like the axiom or vehicross. Not any of theGM Trailblazerclones though I don't like them I was just wondering how hard this would be and whether or not this is a direct swap of if I need to get new mounts made and a new tranny.

Now, this next part is just a dream and might be impossible, but would any of the isuzu turbo diesel with trannies physicaly fit and whether anybody has ever done this. I would LOVE the torque and low end power for towing my rally carand for off road adventures. Also what would the cost be for either of these options. I know the diesel is crazy but it would be unique. Anyway Thanks for any help, and if anybody hasANYisuzu engines for sale let me know.

With enough time, money, and skill anything is possible.

The best bet is to just replace with another 3.2 DOHC. The 3.5 isnt a direct bolt in, you would need the computer from the 3.5 and probably wiring harness too. I believe the 3.5 is 'drive by wire' like the '01+ rodeos. Check on planetisuzoo.com and 4x4wire.com it has been discussed on those but I dont remember all the differences that would need to be changed over.
