Anybody on here ever have a mechanic tell you that the harmonic balance has "thrown a key", and "routed" the crankshaft hole out to make it come off when changing belts?


This was the "oh by the way" call I got from the mechanic after sucessfully tracing my "shutdown" problem to a faulty rebuilt alternator! Sorta like "the operation was a success, but the patient seems to have terminal cancer"!

 

I think I have seen a couple posts on other forums about that. Not a common problem but it can happen.

 

Is there a special tool to remove it?

 

The balancer?
