Hello,

I am hoping someone can help me out with a check engine light issue on my girlfriends 2000 Rodeo with a 3.2L engine. The vehicle runs fine, mpg is good, 90,000 original miles, howeverthe check engine light comes on occasionally(might stay on for a day or two and stay off for several days). Today I scanned the vehicle with the check engine light off and recieved the following codes:

P0171, P0172, P1311, P1312 and code P0101 was pending.

Later in the afternoon we were driving the vehicle and the check engine light came on. I scanned the vehicle again and came up withone new code in addition to the older codes. The codes that came up when the check engine light came on are the following:

P0171, P0172, P1340 (new one), P1311, P1312, P1340 was pending and code P0101 was pending.

Sure would appreciate it if someone could point us in a direction.

thank you...........BrianEdited by: bkthumen

Gnr_70,

Thanks for the helpful links.

I should have been more specific in my inquiry. I am able to find the following codes in my manual and on line:

P0171 Fuel trim system too lean (cylinder bank no. 1)

P0172 Fuel trim system too rich (cylinder bank no. 1)

P0101 Mass Air Flow (MAF) system performance problem

However, I can not find any information on the following codes:

P1311, P1312 and P1340

If someone could provide the definitions of these codes it might be helpful, or point me a good trouble shooting direction.

Thank you...........Brian

P1340 ION Sensing Module – Cylinder Synchronization
P1311 ION Sensing Module SEC 1 Line Circuit Fault
P1312 ION Sensing Module SEC 2 Line Circuit Fault

Have you changed spark plugs recently? ''''''''00+ rodeos use ION sensing ignition which uses the spark plug as sensors so you need to use certain ones, Denso K16PR-P11. If you havent replaced them then it might be time to replace them.

I''ve also seen those codes with cracked intake manifold gasket (not uncommon on 2nd gen rodeos), and slipped timing belt.

Start with the spark plugs, if that doesnt do it then check for leaking intake gasket, then move on to slipped timing.Edited by: Gizmo42

Dave,

Thank you very much for the helpful information.Ilocated the hard to find Denso plugs in Salt Lake City and will order sometomorrow. I am not sure if the plugs have ever been changed, good place to start.

I joined alldatadiy.com and have found some useful information on the Rodeo, but nothing that breaks it down like your helpful reply.

Thanks again...............Brian
