My 2001 Rodeo (4cyl) has a troublecode P3042, which indicates voltage
from Cam postion sensor A is too low for the current engine operating
condition.

Does anyone know what might correct this, and where is the CAM Position Sensor located?

Do I need to remove the valve cover to get to it?



Also, is there a way to test it, before I replace it?

 

no you dont have to remove the valve cover,but you do have to move back the timing cover alittle,stuff some rags down some behind it so you dont drop anything down the timing cover,its only one bolt that holds it.torx bolt.or you can play it safe and remove the whole cover.isuzu sells it for 200 dollars.........heres a tip.its the same senor daewoo sells also on the nubria .theres is about 100 dollars.2.2l engine.you need a scan tool to test it.but theres no need to they go bad often.i,ve replace several here at the dealer.aftermarket i,m not sure how reliable they are.those sensors also short out some time an catch wiring harness on fire,so it an originalEdited by: ISUZUGURU

Does it have a connector with 3 wires? (The other day I saw a 3 wire connector in the location that you are describing.)



Also, does it slide out, or how is it positioned in there?

 

yes thats it,it only has 3 wires.to remove it,do exactly like i described,there only 1 bolt holding it.take a pair of needle nose pliers.an wiggle it straight up,you may have to rock it alittle side to side.it has a curve to it that you have to work around.get the new one first an you,ll see what i mean.the connector has a spring clip just push it in an the harness will realease.if you havent done the timing belt yet now a good time also.there a recall on the timing belts for that engine .the dealer will do it free if it does.call your nearest dealer an give them the vin number they will check for any open recalls..if that belt breaks bye bye valves.interference engine. theres a special procedure an a updated belt,so definatly let the dealer do it anNO!!!!!!! aftermarket parts.or mom an pop shops.Edited by: ISUZUGURU

 

How many camshaft sensors are there; 1 or 2?



The troublecode that I got said that the voltage from sensor "A" was low.

 

only 1 sensor.
