1998 Rodeo 4WD 6cyl 5 speed 125,000 miles HELP!!!!


My blower motor blew a fuse a week ago. I changed the fuse and everything was working fine for a few days. then BAMM. It stopped again. I changed the motor out and it still didn't work. So I changed the resistor and put the old motor back in to save $80 everything was working great. Now, a day later, the blower only works on high. I have read that this means the resistor is bad. My question is; do I need to replace the motor when you replace the resistor or is it something more serious?

 

i had the exact same problem i have a 96 rodeo and my air would only work on high so i got a brand new resistor from autozone(39.990 and a new blower motor(79.99) and now my air and heat both work great. Edited by: IsuzuKid

 

I thought that was the issue, thank you. I guess I got a small projest this weekend.

 

Usually just replacing the resistor pack is enough. However a bad or failing motor can kill a resistor pack. Up to you I guess if you want to do both.

 

Thanks Gizmo. I did try just replacing the resistor once with the old motor and it failed again. I'll let ya'll know how it turns out.

 

When I took the motor out and removed the fan bladeI notice some corrosion on the motor. Seems to be a tell-tail sign that the motor was shot. I removed all the old stuff first then took my trip to AutoZone. Installation of the resistor and the motor took about 10-15 minutes. Blower motor seems to be functioning perfectly.[img]smileys/smiley4.gif[/img]Time will tell. Thank you both again. You saved me a lot of money.I'm sure it would have been a $300 job if I brought it anywhere. $120+ tax at the old AutoZone.
