98 Rodeo-Engine is toast!
#1
My '98 Rodeo engine is toast. It starts and runs but it has a very loud clanking sound that matches engine speed. It's also leaking some oil. It sounds like an engine rod to me.
Should I replace the engine? or just unload it?Iwould do the swap myself to make it somewhat cost effective but is it worth the trouble. This is my firstIsuzu and to be honest I am not sure I want to dump more money into it. Anyone have any advice?
Thanks

how many miles on your rodeo now gizmo,i think i asked you that maybe a yr ago, when you first joined isuzuforums, does yours have the oil consumption problem like bullit338 had?isuzus can naturally burn off qt per thousand.if you dont check the level frequently rod bearings run dry.
sometimes its all about how you take care of it.

Mine has 103k miles on it now. I've put alot into it though taking care of stuff previous owners didnt and also gettin it set up for offroad. I've used Mobil 1 oil and do sea foam treatments before each oil change since I bought it and use 1 qt or less per 3k miles. I recently switched to valvoline high mileage synthetic. I check my oil every time I fill up with gas. Its just a good habit to get into and takes less time then filling the tank.
Alot of guys now are using Rotella 5w40 diesel oil for the better cleaner package and seems to be taking care of oil burning problems. Also seems to be clearing up ticking lifter issues on the SOHC engines.Edited by: Gizmo42
