If you put the car in L1 does the car still shift up? If it does then the shift indicator switch probably is bad.

Yes, the car does shift up in L1...Im starting to think its something to do with the fuel pump and/or fuel filter...I almost ran out of gas the other day and as I was sputtering over a bridge towards a gas station on flat empty the trans. light was flashing...For some reason, the car will die on me while im driving it....could the car momentarily not get gas to the engine and die? Mysterious to me

Dont let it get below 1/4 tank of gas. These have american made fuel pumps which need the fuel to cool it. Letting it get below 1/4 tank will over heat it and kill it if done too much.

Your fuel pump could be failing or you might have sucked up a bunch of crud and plugged the fuel filter.

Could also be an electriclal issue, bad ground, alternator going bad, loose battery connections, etc.

Yeah, I bet its the fuel pump/filter...I constantly ran the car on empty for 2 or 3 years...Only putting 5-10 dollars of gas in it each time...Must have burned it out...Still runs, just trouble with it
