Another idea
When I was looking on the web at Rodeo starting problems, I did find a reference about the IAC causing issues. When I pulled this out, it was
really gunked up and I cleaned it to help. You might want to check this out on your 94 since you were able to get it started and run it for a short time. Use some electrical cleaning spray or MAP cleaner, and just get all the gunk off it. Might help!

i had that problem on a '94 ranger with the 3.0L in it...it wouldn't die, but the idle would rev up and down and up and down.
well, i finally got it over the weekend...it was indeed the ignition module....
$93 after taxes and she's back on the road.
