Hey guys, just curious to see what kind of fuel milage to expect from the carbed 3.1 on my '91.

I've heard that they have like an 82L tank. I've read things averaging like 13mpg.

Right now,I'm just over 300km and have a half tank left. I find up to
250km from fill up,the needle drops from full pretty fast, but stays on
1/4 tank for a long time. I usually fill up around 500km with 1/4 left
and that usually takes 50-55L to fill up.

This is my first large SUV/truck,and I've been used to driving fuel
sipping Ford Contours,Toyota Celicas and an RX7 that...well,that wasn't
great on gas,but yeah. These Rodeos sure seem thirsty.

Mine is a 3.1L carburated V6,automatic and 4WD with 253 000km on it.

What do you guys typically see?

They are fairly thirsty. Its a 4k lb truck so not real fuel efficient.

Averages I have seen posted are anywhere from 15 mpg to 20 mpg depending on driving style and engine. Yours will probably be towards the low end since the 3.1 was pretty under powered so you need to give it more throttle. I get a steady 15.5 with mostly city driving to work and back and around 19 mpg with highway/trail driving. Mine has quite a bit more power then yours but I'm not easy on the throttle. Mine is also a 5 speed and fuel injected which is a little more fuel efficient.

Things to improve mileage..
Put more air in the tires. Mine says 29 front and rear, I run 35 psi.
Drive like grandma. Slow take offs should help quite a bit.
Replace O2 sensors. I have seen posts of mpg going up after replacing them even if they weren't showing as bad.

yeah I had to replace my 02 sensor to pass emissions. I have like 35 psi in all the tires, and I rarely take it over 100kmh (60mph) unless I'm on the freeway and then I only do like 110-115 because it just runs out of breath. I don't drive it very hard and it's all stock with the exception of an Accel air filter.

I think just having a 5 spd would greatly improve my economy. Automatics are always more thirsty.

I used to have a '98 Mercury Mystique with the 2.0L Zetec and an automatic. I'd get maybe 350-375km before I was running on fumes. Then,I got a '95 Ford Contour (same car, think Taurus/Sable) with the same 2.0L Zetec and a 5 spd,and that thing would take me 650km to a tank.
