I am new to automatic cars as I have always driven manuals. My 02 automatic Rodeo only has 53k miles on it I think I have a problem with the clutch not sure if it needs replacing? When you start off sometimes the car doesn't go straight away and then instant power and the wheels spin, also whilst driving when the car goes to change gear it sometimes changes there is a pause then the wheels spin. Any information would be a massive help and if you think the clutch needs replacing how much does this normally cost? Many Thanks.

No clutch with an automoatic. Most likely the trans fluid is low. If it hasnt been done that you know of, have the trans fluid changed and filter cleaned/replaced. The 4L30E trannys in these trucks do not like to be neglected and need regular fluid changes.

Got the trans fluid replaced ($130) and filer cleaned, but after driving the car all day its still the same. Is it the timing of the shifter or is the transmition on its way out? Thanks.

Could it be the throttle position sensor or speed sensor, perhaps the trans isn't getting enough pressure or they didn't manage to quite fill the trans with fluid? Like I said in my firts post I am new to automatics so sorry for all the questions... Many thanks

Since the fluid is good I would now suspect the range mode sensor. It makes the trans do funny things when it gets dirt. I can just be cleaned. I havent done it myself since I have a manual tranny.

There are several ppl on that board who have fixed theirs.

Those are the only things that I know of that cause the symptoms you have. Doesnt mean that something else wont cause it, I just dont know what it would be.

Like you I dont have much experience with automatics. Never owned one and never will, I dont like them.
