Apparently my fuel tank shield is rusting out completely. Does anyone know if this shield is part of the fuel tank support system? I'm curious if it rusts out completely whether my fuel tank will fall off the vehicle or not. I'm told by the dealers that a new shield is not available anywhere in the country. I need one, so does anyone have a recommended junkyard that would ship this? I prefer one that is in decent shape and am being told that the ones in the midwest are likely to be corroded and rusted just as mine currently is. The part number for this shield is 8-97226-445-4.

Starting to look like junk yards may be my only option. Anyone have a recommendation for tracking one of these fuel tank shields down?

I am in New York and for brackets or in your case shields I would go to a metal Shop they should be able to fabricate a good shield for a nominal fee. Just bring them the rusty one.
