2000 Rodeo Wont Start
So my landlord has a 2000 Rodeo with a 2.2 in it. The timing belt broke and he had someone replace it but never tried to start it. He wanted me to take a look as I work on cars. I told him it may or may not work if he bent the valves etc.
Anyways, I first fixed the leaking valve cover gasket as the spark plug holes were full of oil, I also replaced the plugs and wires.
I then checked the timing belt and the 2 cam gears were way off but the crank gear was centered with the little notch toards the oil pan lip.
I put the left and right cam gears to the mark on the valve cover as per the haynes manual.
I also replaced the the battery, changed the oil and gave it a once over for any loose connections.
When I push the clutch in the engine spins but will not start, I know I am getting spark, and I checked the firing order and gap of the plugs.
I tried putting some gas in the Throtle body to see if that would kick it on and still a no go just cranks and cranks, There is gas in the fuel take as well.
I still need to do a compression check but I would think the car would till at least sputter, I can feel air being pushed out the exhaust when it is being cranked and the smell of unburnt fuel.
Any ideas I would like to get this thing running?
