1997 Rodeo Timing belt change 3.2 L engine ?
Trying to change the timing belt on a 3.2Liter engine. Got down to the timing belt but can't get the timing marks to line up no matter how many
revolutions on the crankshaft ~ at least 20 tries. According to the Haynes manual, the crankshaft timing sprocket is suppose to line up to the drivers
side oil pump mark, with the dotted line on the belt - 180 degrees opposite to the groove lined up on the oil pump mark, and at the same time, the solid lines on the belt are suppose to line up with the cam sprocket marks. But no matter how many revolutions I do on the crankshaft, I can't get this alignment. Does this matter, as long as
you have TDC with the crankshaft facing the oil pump mark? Doesn't make
sense to me. Any help on this. Thanks

Hydraulic timing belt tensioner
Did your hydraulic t. belt tensioner go out? I replaced mine on my '95 Rodeo about 2 months ago and found that I had to re-time the camshafts due to the belt jumping teeth, which consequently caused the timing belt marks not to align either.

No, just needing changing. I found a good article on this and it said that
it didn't matter, as long as you line up the groove to the driver side oil pump mark. So I am going to give it a try. Great article, here is the link.
