Default Blu-Ray and DVD - The Criterion Collection Explained

If you are a collector of your favorite films on optical media formats (DVD Everybody Hates Chris complete series dvd, Blu-Ray and even LaserDisc) Warehouse 13 dvd collection, you may have come across several instances where the movie is described to be part of the "Criterion Collection". Criterion Collection is a film distribution company that restores classic and current films with the most pristine video and audio quality. In recent years Numb3rs box Glee dvd box set, The Criterion Collection has moved away from more mainstream titles and has focused on presenting a wide range of critically acclaimed and classic films from all over the world. The Criterion Collection is also the pioneer of the Letterbox or "Wide-screen" format that we have become accustomed to in today's media market. In the days of "tube" television (also known as 4:3 aspect ratio) The Original Series on dvd La Femme Nikita complete, a film would have to be cropped (sometimes up to 50 percent) and re-framed in order to fit the aspect ratio of home television sets. The Criterion Collection decided to release its films in their original theatrical aspect ratio to give viewers the full experience intended by the director. On older television sets, this would display black bars on the top and bottom of the picture to maintain the aspect ratio 30 Rock complete seasons dvd, but this is less prevalent today with widescreen televisions.Since Criterion Collection is not a production studio, it does not own the rights to a film upon its initial release. The film must be licensed by Criterion in order for them to be able to produce a version available on Blu-Ray and DVD. The major downside to this is that in most cases, the license will only be granted to Criterion for a specific period of time which translates to them only having the rights to produce it for that period of time. If you happen to come across one of your favorite films as part of The Criterion Collection Burn Notice season 1-3, it is best to purchase it sooner rather than later because you never know how long it will be commercially available. In the case that a film becomes unavailable in stores, the only other option would be to purchase it through an online auction site such as eBay or through a collector.Criterion Collection films generally hold a higher price tag than their "normal version" counterparts OZ complete series, but if you can afford to spend the extra money, it is highly recommended to go with a Criterion version. You will also find that some films are only released as part of The Criterion Collection Charmed complete series, and thus it will be your only option to go with this version. Some of the most important films in cinematic history are available in The Criterion Collection and it is worthwhile to check out their vast catalog if you are at all interested in cinema and its history throughout the world.
