My Isuzu story
A co-worker was recently telling a story of a drunk driver hitting her parked van and tearing the rear bumper off. She was quite irritated because the van was sitting in the street right next to their '91 Rodeo which is ready for the junk yard. She said ....blah blah blah blah blah..... I really didn't hear much of the complaining after the junk yard was mentioned. Hold on! Back the tow truck up lady! I asked what exactly was wrong with the Rodeo. She said the clutch was bad, the starter was bad, it was stuck in reverse and they couldn't even get the radio to come on so they could get their CD out of it. The tires are shot and the windows don't roll up and down anymore. She told her husband to sell it and he wouldn't because of all the problems it has. He was just going to scrap it but he didn't even want to waste the money to have the junk yard come and get it, so there it sits. I told him if he just wanted it gone, I would haul it off. I figured if nothing else I could scrap it and ebay what is good, make a few bucks. I knew with all the problems they listed there wasn't as much wrong as they thought. When I went to look it over to determin how to haul it off, I was surprised at it's condition. Stuck in reverse, backed up against a fence on a hill. Clutch pedal to the floor, so much corrosion on the battery I couldn't even see the terminals. Very straight body, nice CD player, sunroof, alloy wheels with matching spare, 31" tires with plenty of tread left. Very surprised. I set the park brake, which I was also surprised works well, smacked the shifter lever and popped it into neutral. We rolled it down the little hill and right onto my trailer. Back at home, I cleaned up the battery terminals, charged the battery, fixed a few bad wires at the battery, and she fired right up, no starter problem at all. Checked the windows, all work fine with plenty of battery. Clutch pedal still sitting on the floor, I started it in gear and went and did some 4 wheelin with it. Best free car I ever got! I did find out one front hub, which have been changed to manuals, was not working. New master and slave cylnders installed, and I have my new off road project! I have a set of 10 bolt Chevy axels that will be going under it this winter, lower cogs, as low as I can fit into a 10 bolt. Also have a transfer case I can make a doubler for it. The little V6 with the lower gearing will have all the power I need for some serious crawlin'. The SOA/SAS will give me plenty of room for some 37" tires. After I get going, I will start a build thread to show case all the mew mods I am planning on.
